VELIZY-VILLACOUBLAY, France — March 12, 2025 — Dassault Systèmes Partners with RWTH Aachen University in a transformative 10-year collaboration aimed at reshaping the systems engineering skills of Germany’s future workforce. This partnership will see Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform integrated into the university’s mechanical engineering curriculum, providing students with hands-on learning that aligns directly with industry needs.

Empowering Future Engineers

In this collaboration, up to 13,000 mechanical engineering students will use the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, which will be a core part of RWTH Aachen’s education programs. This platform provides students with hands-on experience in model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and virtual twin applications. It connects theory with practice, enabling students to gain valuable skills that are directly applicable in the workplace.

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform integrates modeling with physical simulations and AI-based tools. It creates traceability of system parameters within one collaborative environment, preparing students to address modern product development challenges.

Enhancing Industry Readiness

This partnership extends beyond education. RWTH Aachen’s Institute for Machine Elements and Systems Engineering (MSE) will collaborate with Dassault Systèmes on joint research projects. The research will focus on advancing MBSE methods and enhancing engineering practices.

Results from this research will be shared with industry through the Center for Systems Engineering (CSE) at RWTH Aachen. CSE facilitates collaboration between academia and industry, accelerating the development of innovative engineering solutions.

Preparing for the Future of Engineering

Professor Georg Jacobs, Director of MSE, explained the importance of the partnership: “The 3DEXPERIENCE platform will equip our students with the necessary tools and methods for AI-supported, digital product development. This partnership with Dassault Systèmes strengthens both academia and industry.”

Model-based systems engineering plays a crucial role in developing technologies such as autonomous vehicles, aircraft, and medical devices. As industries adopt increasingly complex product development methods, professionals with MBSE skills will be in high demand.

Bridging the Skills Gap

Valérie Ferret, Vice President of 3DEXPERIENCE Edu at Dassault Systèmes, emphasized the impact of the partnership: “Mastering systems engineering is essential for innovation in the Generative Economy. Our collaboration with MSE and CSE at RWTH Aachen University will bridge the skills gap, boost employability, and help accelerate Germany’s industrial transformation.”

This collaboration was announced during CWD & DSEC 2025, an event focused on drivetrain technology, systems engineering, and wind power drives.
